Keith Newberry

State Senate District 32

About Keith

Keith Newberry grew up in southern Ohio, the eleventh of eighteen children. After graduating from New Richmond High School in 1984,he joined the US Navy. As a machinist mate in the nuclear power program, he was brought to Idaho Falls in 1985. He met his wife of 37 years, Barbara in Idaho Falls while a student at the Naval Reactors Facility. Mr. Newberry served on a Los Angeles Class submarine, USS Portsmouth SSN 707 for over three years and finished his service on the USS Dixon (AS37), submarine tender, in San Diego California. When he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1992, he and his family returned to his wife’s hometown and settled in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Newberry was a longtime employee with the Idaho National Laboratory until 2021 when he was forced to part ways over the vaccine mandates. What’s more, his wife’s small business lost months of income due to the mandates in the State of Idaho. This ignited a passion in Mr. Newberry for citizen participation in the fight for our constitutional rights. He got involved in the local Republican party, and ran for office in 2022 on a platform of resisting the unconstitutional COVID mandates, restoring individual liberties and fiscal responsibility.

Mr. Newberry has continued to work in project management since his departure from INL, but he has not forgotten the stress the COVID mandates placed on his family, and the families of so many others. He also recognizes the out-of-control spending at the federal and state levels and wishes to curb the appetite in the state for more federal money and state taxpayer dollars and return to fiscal responsibility and restraint.

The Newberry family includes 3 children and 10 grandchildren, and Mr. Newberry has once again chosen to fight for a future where his grandchildren and children like them will have their God-given rights secured by a government that protects individual life, liberty, and property. When elected, Keith Newberry will never stop fighting to ensure our government recognizes its mandate to be a good steward over public resources.

Important Issues

Immigration

Our crisis at the border threatens to destroy our country. We must do everything we can to stop this invasion, at every level of government. This year, the Idaho legislature refused to hear a bill that would have curtailed public welfare benefits to those who are here illegally. Newberry will work to make sure this passes.

In 2021 Senator Cook supported SCR-107 which provides a path for illegal immigrants getting drivers licenses in the state. This senate resolution created an interim committee to develop a framework where illegals can obtain driver’s licenses and identification cards. I oppose amnesty and any steps toward amnesty, which this certainly would have been.

Fiscal Responsibility

Unfortunately, this year, our current District 32 State Senator has sided with the Democrats in trying to kill newly implemented conservative changes in the way the legislature approaches government spending.

When it comes to fiscal conservatism, Keith Newberry will always side with the fiscal conservatives, and NEVER with the liberal Democrats.

When presented with spending bills, our current Senator has trouble saying “no”. Mr. Newberry will scrutinize each piece of legislation very carefully.

The current District 32 Senator has voted in favor of wasteful spending. Mr. Newberry recognizes that wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars is unsustainable and fiscal responsibility must be maintained!

Tax On Groceries

Keith Newberry is dedicated to removing Idaho’s 6% tax on groceries, which strains consumers, especially families, who now face over $50 per month in grocery taxes alone. Keith Newberry aims to prioritize Idaho families by delivering relief from escalating grocery costs through the repeal of the burdensome grocery tax.
